Bharatpur (Rajasthan) : Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and party general secretary Amar Singh, who were scheduled to meet the agitating Gujjar community and their leader Kirori Singh Bainsla, were Monday turned back from Bharatpur by police officials.
The Samajwadi Party leaders were supposed to meet Bainsla at Pilupura village, where he has been camping with thousands of his people along the railway lines that connect Delhi-Mumbai for the past three days as part of his rail blockade to demand Scheduled Tribe status.
Bharatpur Superintendent of Police Rohit Mahajan told IANS that the Samajwadi Party leaders were advised not to visit the area due to security reasons.
“They were advised to go back due to high security risk,” Mahajan said.
At least 37 people have been killed, mostly in police firing, in the Gujjar protest since Friday.
