United Nations : Tanzania President J.M. Kikwete launched in Dar Es Salaam the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Say NO to Violence against Women campaign.
The Tanzania campaign will be coordinated by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender and Children with technical support from the South African High Commission in Dar es salaam, EU, Embassy of Spain.
The Ministry has established a broad-based task force that includes an inter-ministerial committee, the Commission on Human Rights for Good Governance, youth leaders, and local NGOs led by Women Legal Aid Centre.
The goal is to create a public awareness on the issue and build support to implement a National Action Plan against women’s abuse.
