Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal formally accepted the aircraft in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Airbus president and CEO Tom Enders.

It is one of the 15 Airbus A330-200 jetliners for which the Jet Airways placed an order between 2005 and 2007. An initial order for 10 aircraft was signed in October 2005 and the number was increased to 15 in December 2007.

Jet Airways will deploy these aircraft on its far eastern routes to serve Hong Kong as well as to service routes to Europe and the Middle East, the company said.

Goyal said in Berlin: “The A330 fits in well with our strategy to operate fuel efficient aircraft which also have low operating costs. The aircraft also provides our customers with the most modern and comfortable cabin in its sector.”

It currently operates A330-200s between India and its European hub in Brussels, Belgium, and onto Canada and North America.

“India is experiencing the world’s fastest passenger traffic growth and we are delighted to be a part of these exciting times through our partnership with Jet Airways. The A330 is a fantastically efficient aircraft, and also offers leading standards of passenger comfort,” said Enders.
