By Xinhua,
Kabul : The U.S.-led Coalition forces killed several insurgents and captured nine others Tuesday in separate operations in Afghan southern and eastern regions, the military said.
Conducted in restive areas in Paktia and Helmand provinces, the operations were targeting militants’ hideout and stabilizing security, according to two Coalition statements issued here.
“Several militants were killed and nine were detained on May 27,during a Coalition forces operation to disrupt anti-government operations in Paktia province,” a statement of the U.S.-led military said.
It added that a number of arms and ammunitions including RPGs (rocket-propelled grenade) and AK-47 assault rifles were discovered and destroyed in the operation which took place in Zurmat district.
In another statement, the Coalition said that on the same day, several more militants were killed in the restive Garmsir district of the southern Helmand province.
Garmsir, a hotbed of Taliban in southern Afghanistan, has been the ground of fierce fighting between U.S. Marines and militants over the past weeks.
The Taliban outfit has not made any comment over the claims.
Taliban militants whose regime was toppled by a U.S.-led military invasion in late 2001 have vowed to oust the Afghan government and evict international troops based in Afghanistan.
