Krasnokamensk (Transbaikal Region) : The Mongolian government has taken a positive decision on joint work with Russia in the peaceful use of atomic energy, Mongolian Prime Minister Sanzhiin Bayar, who is staying in the Transbaikal Region together with general director of the state corporation Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko, told journalists on Tuesday.
“Russia and Mongolia will jointly extract uranium at a number of uranium deposits on the territory of Mongolia,” Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency quoted Bayar as saying.
“How and when it will start – – not important,” he said, adding that “the main thing is that we start again such cooperation stopped in the 90s of the last century due to a number of reasons.”
According to the prime minister, “there are several historical, economic and geopolitical circumstances which push us into each other’s arms to gain mutually advantageous benefit.
Bayar also said that “Russian-Mongolian cooperation in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy cannot successfully develop so far as Mongolia has not adopted legislation on uranium yet.”
“To successfully develop our joint potential, we need to work out a clear-cut state policy regarding this” since “we plan not only to extract uranium, but build nuclear power plants of small capacity in Mongolia too, and Russia in this respect has unique — best in the world technologies,” Bayar said.
Bayar said that “in September, the Mongolian parliament will begin working and it will surely set to consider the adoption of legislation on uranium.”
According to Bayar, “the work of the uranium mine of the Priargun industrial mining and chemical amalgamation has impressed him very much.”
“We’ll master and use these methods of work in our country too,” he said.
For his part, Kiriyenko thanked Bayar for the possibility to familiarize himself with a number of deposits in the north of Mongolia and expressed the hope for further development of cooperation between Russia and Mongolia in the field of world atomic energy.
