Mumbai : Six women and a child are feared to have drowned Tuesday after their boat tilted and they fell into Bhima river in Maharashtra’s Sholapur district.
The accident took place just before noon in Mithkalwadi taluka, around 450 km from here.
Two women whose bodies have been recovered were identified as Savita Maruti Mitkal and Kusum Maruti Mitkal.
Rescue work was in progress as four women and a child are still missing, said a police official at the site of the tragedy.
The official told IANS by phone: “The passengers lost their balance when the boat tilted, and fell into the water. The boat was in an upright position when rescuers reached the spot. We are making attempts to recover the bodies of the remaining victims that may have been washed downstream.”
