Bihar allocates land for NIFT branch in Patna

Patna : The Bihar cabinet Wednesday approved free-of-cost transfer of 10 acres of land from the agriculture department to the industries department for establishing a branch of the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here, a top official here said.

The government has alraedy begun the process of setting up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Chandragupta Institute of Management in Patna (CIMP) on the lines of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

Bihar Chief Secretary R.J.M. Pillai said the cabinet has approved the allocation of land for the NIFT branch in Patna, which will be the ninth in the country.

The NIFT has branches in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkatta and Rai Bareilly.

Sources said classes at the NIFT will begin from the next academic session. It will initially have a small batch of students and function from a temporary building, which is being renovated.

“Till the time its own building comes up, the NIFT will temorarily function from the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority building,” an official said.
