Gaza : Five Palestinian activists were wounded early on Wednesday in an Israeli air raid close to Sofa Crossing, east of the southern Gaza city of Rafah, while Hamas fired 21 mortar shells at Israeli troops that had waged an incursion into the area.
An Israeli reconnaissance plane launched two missiles at a group of activists belonging to Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, in eastern Rafah, wounding five, witnesses said.
They added that medics boarding an ambulance rushed to the scene and transported the injured to hospital, and medical sources described the wounds of some as serious and others as being of medium severity.
Meanwhile, Eziddin Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claimed responsibility for firing 21 mortar shells at the Israeli troops engaged in the eastern Rafah incursion.
An Israeli bulldozer was targeted and destroyed in the attack, according to the brigades’ statement.
And in Gaza City, Israeli tanks executed an incursion into the eastern part of Zaitoun District and helicopters fired a number of missiles that fell over open areas, causing no casualties.
In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 12 Palestinians in different search operations in Nablus and Balata refugee camp, according to Israeli radio.
It said the arrestees were wanted by Israeli authorities and were taken away for interrogation.
