Gaza : Islamic Hamas movement on Tuesday called on its supporters to demonstrate against Israeli blockade in front of the Sofa crossing on the borders between Israel and southeastern Gaza Strip on Friday.
Sofa crossing, which is in the east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, is controlled by the Israeli army, who opens the crossing only for allowing humanitarian aids into the closed enclave.
Ashraf Abu Dayya, a spokesman of Hamas said the residents of Rafah and Khan Younis towns in southern Gaza Strip are asked to demonstrate on Friday afternoon in front of Sofa crossing “against the unfair siege.”
Israel, which termed the Gaza Strip as “a hostile entity,” has been imposing a tight blockade on the impoverished region after the Hamas took control of the enclave by force in June.
Hamas has arranged two demonstrations in the last couple of weeks. One Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli troops and around 30 wounded in two demonstrations near Erez and Karni crossings north and east of Gaza.
“It is a right for the Palestinian people to live in dignity and to revolt against those who are besieging them,” said Abu Dayya, adding “our people won’t wait for the slow death, and will keep defying the siege.”
