Zensar had started its operations in 2005 in the Baltic port city of Gdansk which is also famous for the establishment of the Polish trade union movement, Solidarity.

It was Solidarity which had led a democratic revolution against the communist authorities in 1980s not only in Poland but in the whole of Eastern Europe.

“We are very happy with our success from our Gdansk office that we now want to set up a centre of excellence which will train some 3,000 IT specialists in the coming years. It will not only attract bright Polish students but students and technicians all over Europe”, said Ganesh Natarjan, president of Zensar.

Pawel Adamowicz, president of the Gdansk city council said “we are very grateful to our Indian friends that they have selected Gdansk as their main hub for their operations in Europe. Our hands of cooperation will always be there for Zensar which has given us a new profile in information technology.”

Today, apart from Zensar, Tata Consultancy Service and Wipro are also making their presence felt in Poland. The IT firms are likely to generate around one billion dollars by 2010.

Part of the credit should be given to previous Indian ambassador Anil Wadhwa who went out of his way to convince these companies to use Poland’s strategic location to expand their business in Europe.

By May 2004 Poland had joined the European Union and a new horizon for Indo-Polish trade and commerce emerged.

Anna Bem, an Indophile and a business woman noted, “history will remember Anil Wadhwa’s tenure from 2004 to 2007 when he gave a new profile to India’s presence in Poland. His tireless energy to convince people from both India and Poland was remarkable.”
