The defendants were convicted of possessing illegal weapons with illicit intent, selling illegal weapons, undermining Jordan’s relations with another country and illegally infiltrating a neighboring country.

According to the charge sheet, some of the defendants decided to recruit men to join Iraqi fighters and smuggle them into Iraq via the Jordanian-Syrian border in 2006.

One of the defendants knew someone in Syria who was linked to the fighters in Iraq and he managed to recruit several people, the charge sheet said.

The defendants joined training camps in Lebanon and Syria and some armed themselves with machine-guns to attack security forces while illegally crossing the Jordanian-Syrian border, read the charge sheet.
