Kabul : At least passengers were killed and over 50 wounded as a truck, they were travelling in,plunged into a raving in the remote Badakhshan province of Afghanistan on Wednesday. Most of those killed and injured in the road mishap were women and children. Badakhshan is one of the backward provinces of Afghanistan located in the northern zone and bordering China and Tajikistan. Interior Ministry in Kabul confirmed the killing of 15 people in the accident. It says the accident happened on a narrow road in a remote district of the province early Wednesday morning. Director of public health department in the provicne Mamoon Jalali the dead included six children He said the injured were rushed to Faizabad, capital of the province, for treatment.
In Kabul, officials said President Hamid Karzai had ordered to shift those serious injured to well-equipped hospitals in other cities through helicopters. In Afghanistan, most of the roads are narrow and bumpy and passenger vehicles often face fatal accidents. While the reconstruction of infrastructure is in progress in Kabul and cities located close to it, the remote provinces and cities are still needed repair and reconstruction of key roads and linking routes to some areas and districts.
