Martha Nussbaum, Tarun Tejpal to attend IMC’s convention

Chicago : Several distinguished speakers from around the world are set to converge in Chicago on May 31st 2008 to address the 4th national convention of the Indian Muslim Council – USA and reflect on the prospects and challenges to the “Idea of India”.

Martha Nussbaum, one of America’s most prominent philosophers and listed among the world’s top 100 intellectuals by Foreign Policy and Prospect magazines, will be speaking on “Strengthening India’s Secular Democracy” at the Convention. Martha Nussbaum’s recent book “The Clash Within: Democracy, Religious Violence, and India’s Future” is critically acclaimed as a “sophisticated analysis of democracy and religious extremism” in India.

First Muslim US Congressman Mr. Keith Ellison, a Democrat from Minnesota , who is unable to attend the event, will be addressing the audience through a video message.

Mr. Tarun Tejpal, the Editor-in-Chief of the investigative magazine Tehelka will deliver the keynote speech at the convention.

Harpreet Kaur, Award winning director of “The Widow Colony” documentary.
Manmeet Singh, Producer of “The Widow Colony” documentary.
Dr. Angana Chatterji, activist and Associated Professor at California Institute of Integral Studies.
