India”s inflation rate highest in 3.5 years at 8.1 pct

New Delhi : Indias annual inflation rate has touched 8.1 percent mark for the week ending May 17, the highest in last three and a half years.

The increase in rate of inflation was due to a 0.6 percent increase in prices of food items, according to official data released here Friday by Indian Commerce Ministry.

The rate of inflation had touched 7.82 percent for the week ending May 10, the ministry said.

Talking to reporters here today, India’s Finance Minister said, “There are no shortcut solutions … but we are confident of controlling the inflation.”
