Bangkok : Thailand’s prime minister Samak Sundaravej said on his weekly Saturday TV talk show program that if the anti-government group continue protest at the main street of Bangkok, the government would use police or military force to drive them.
In a special live-broadcast speech on state television NBT on Saturday morning, Samak said the on-going rallies have severely affected other people to the level that the government might have to forcefully end the demonstrations.
“I’m here to say that I will take legal action against them because they have no right to be there. I won’t let you, nor will police and soldiers,” he said.
“The country needs peace. The rally has caused damages to investment,” he added. “I need to take away this scar. You have the right (to protest), but you have to do it somewhere else,” said the premier.
Anyway, the premier did not give them a deadline although it was widely suspected that the military would intervene the protest before Monday.
On Friday night, several thousands of People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) members continued the rally in a main street in central Bangkok on Friday evening, calling Samak to step down as it claimed Samak serves as nominee of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
Samak also said that five PAD core leaders will face defamation charges.
He reiterated that the government and the army understand the situation well, so a coup would not be staged.
