The U.S. military said in a statement that it is looking into complains from Fallujah residents that U.S. soldiers have been handing out coins with a Bible verse written in Arabic.

The statement said a marine has been removed from his duties, but noted it was an isolated incident and that there was no collective drive to influence the local Muslim population.

The U.S. military did not say how the marine would be punished.

The incident came about two weeks after a U.S. soldier stirred up an uproar in Iraq for targeting a Koran in his shooting practice.

The soldier was removed from his duty in Iraq and U.S. President George W. Bush apologized over the incident.
