Dhaka, Bangladesh : The first hajj flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited left here on Friday for Jeddah.
A chartered 747-aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd carrying 512 hajj pilgrims departed Zia International Airport for Jeddah on Friday afternoon.
Chief Adviser o Bangladesh Carataker government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed inaugurated the first Biman hajj flight at a simple ceremony at the airport.
While inaugurating the first hajj flight, the chief adviser exchanged pleasantries with the hajj pilgrims in the flight. A munajat was also offered seeking peace, progress and prosperity of Muslim Ummah as well as the country.
Religious Affairs Adviser A F Hassan Ariff and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Mahbub Jamil, among others, were present. Secretary to the Chief Adviser’s Office Kazi M Aminul Islam, secretaries concerned and high officials of civil aviation of Bangladesh were also present.
According to sources, a total of 48,561 pilgrims from Bangladesh including 7474 under the government management will perform the holy hajj this year. Of the total pilgrims, Biman will carry 29,000 hajj pilgrims.
The pre-hajj flights will be conducted till December 2 while the post-hajj flights from December 11 to January 12.
