The Left parties will contest certain seats in the election-bound states to ensure its presence in assemblies, Bardhan told reporters Sunday.

The press conference was convened to explain the decisions taken at two-day national executive meeting of the CPI.

The Left parties will not support the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said.

He, however, said BSP leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has not approached the Left parties for their support in the states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

“We are looking at a post-election scenario in the country,” Bardhan said hoping for the formation of a wide third alternative in the country before the Lok Sabha elections early next year.

The national executive of the party also decided to take a joint stand with the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on alliances in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

“The two Left parties will take a united stand on the alliance in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh,” Bardhan said while ruling out an alliance with the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu.

The national executive also adopted resolutions on rise of “communalism, regional chauvinism and terrorism, the present economic crisis in the country and on slashing petroleum price”.
