Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh’s main opposition Congress party received a jolt with a former minister and a former legislator quitting the party ahead of the Nov 29 assembly elections.
While former state minister and spokesman Mukesh Nayak joined Uma Bharti’s Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS) Party, former legislator from Chhattarpur Shanka
Pratap Singh left the party to contest the state legislative election as a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate.
Nayak was a minister in the Digvijay Singh-led Congress government in the state. He later joined Maharshi Mahesh Yogi’s Ajeya Bharat Party but returned to the Congress fold a few months ago.
He wanted to contest from the Pawai constituency in Panna district but the party did not oblige him. The BJS has agreed to field him from the constituency of his choice.
Singh quit the Congress because he was keen to contest from the newly created Rajnagar constituency but the party asked him to contest from Chhattarpur.
“I wanted ticket from Rajnagar where I have been working for the past three years. Now since the BSP has agreed to field me from the constituency of my choice, I am no more with the Congress,” Singh told IANS over telephone.
