United Nations : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Wednesday congratulated Barack Obama on his historic victory and said he looked forward to working with the new administration to build an era of renewed partnership.
“This is (Obama’s election), I believe, an historic opportunity,” Ban told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York.
Referring to Obama’s oft-repeated statement – “change you can believe in” – during his election campaign, Ban said he spoke about a new era of global partnership and building bridges of cooperation with other nations and the UN.
“No country has a stronger stake in a strong United Nations,” Ban said.
Expressing confidence about the future relationship between the UN and the US, Ban said: “I am confident that we can look forward to an era of renewed partnership and a new multilateralism.”
