Azad, who quit the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, had contested against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit during the last state assembly elections.

Discontent among party workers, led by Azad, came to the fore when they staged demonstrations outside the BJP national headquarter here.

The protesters also shouted slogans outside the residence of national BJP president Rajnath Singh.

BJP national spokesperson Arun Jaitley said the protest was momentary and would die down as soon as the nominations were filed.
