Jammu : Traders from Poonch in India and Rawlakote in Pakistan met at Chakan-Da-Bagh, a meeting point at the Line of Control (LoC), to discuss “way and means of doing trade”, an official said Thursday.
Traders from Rawlakote of Pakistani administered Kashmir and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir met Wednesday to discuss the trade between the two sides. The focus was on how to develop the cross-LoC trade in a meaningful and mutually beneficial manner.
“This was the first meeting of the local traders from both sides,” Poonch Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Afzal Bhat told IANS over phone.
“The idea was to make the traders know each other and the ways and means of doing trade,” he said.
The traders from Rawlakote were led by Abdul Hameed, while Poonch traders were led by Inder Raj Sharma.
They discussed what could be imported and exported from either side and what would be the means to fix prices.
The Indians were keen on having rice and carpets from Rawlakote, while Pakistani traders wanted vegetables.
According to officials, the meeting lasted well over six hours and both delegations got sizeable orders.
Sharma was confident that the the cross-LoC trade would improve ties between the two sides.
