Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Government has reportedly banned the transmission of QTV, an Islamic channel, through cable TV network within the Jammu district.
Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the local cable TV networks have stopped transmission of QTV on the instruction of Deputy Commission Jammu. The QTV was the only Islamic channel being transmitted through the cable TV networks in Jammu district.
It was reliably learnt that the Deputy Commission has acted upon a complaint filed by SSP Crime Branch JP Singh regarding the credentials of the TV channel.
However, on the other hand official sources denied that the channel has been banned. They claimed that the cable operators have only been asked to furnish the permission/authority to transmit the said channel.
“The channel has not been banned but we are only ascertaining the factual position about the transmission of the channel without any authority/permission”, an official told News Agency of Kashmir (NAK) on the condition of anonymity.
He said that Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu approached the office of DC Jammu office with request to ascertain the functioning of Q TV under the jurisdiction of Jammu.
The DC office asked the Joint Director Information to verify and furnish the factual position to the crime branch regarding the transmission of the channel.
It was learnt that the Joint Director Information Jammu conveyed to the SSP Crime Brach Jammu that the Q TV Channel was being transmitted through the cable TV networks but “it can not be confirmed that the signal of Q TV are transmitted/ re-transmitted with proper permission/registration from the concerned authorities”.
The official act has created resentment among the Muslims in Jammu, who now termed it as interference in the religious affairs.
“It was the only source of Islamic teaching for us in the present time”, Tasleema Akhtar, a resident of Trikuta Nagar said adding, “The channel was not only preaching Islam but even peace and universal brotherhood”.
Qayoom Ahmed, another local, said that there were numbers of religious channels being transmitted through the cable and banning only Islamic channel was against the justice and interference in the religious affairs.
