Raipur : Sundarlal Lahre, a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, has escaped a kidnapping bid, police said Thursday.
R.K. Dube of the Khamtarai police station here told reporters that some people had reached Lahre’s house late Wednesday night and stormed into his bedroom to abduct him but they fled after his relatives and neighbours assembled and challenged them.
Police filed a first information report (FIR) on a complaint by Lahre who reached the police station along with dozens of his supporters protesting the abduction bid.
Lahre is contesting from the Raipur Rural constituency. The polling will be held Friday.
