“A group of workers had gone to a quarry to extract laterite in a mining area located under Sukinda police station. A heap of earth suddenly collapsed on them,” District Superintendent of Police D.S. Kutte told IANS.

A police team rushed to the site and rescue operations were underway in Jajpur, around 150 km from here.

“So far 13 bodies have been recovered, but we fear there could be more people stuck under the debris,” the police official added.
