Need to probe links between SIMI, Sangh Parivar associate groups: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress party Friday demanded an enquiry to find out if there are linkages between the terror group Indian Mujahideen, the banned Students Islamic Movement of India and various organisations associated with the Sangh Parivar in the light of one of the accused in the Malegaon blast alleging that the Sep 29 blast was outsourced.

“Was Malegaon the only blast outsourced? Or were the blasts prior to Malegaon also outsourced? Are there linkages between the Indian Mujahideen/SIMI and various organizations affiliated or inspired by the Sangh Parivar like the Hindu Jagran Manch, Jankalyan Samiti and Abhinav Bharat?” asked Manish Tewari, Congress spokesperson, at a press conference.

Lt Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit, one of the accused in the Malegaon blast, told his interrogators that he had roped in some Muslims of Malegaon to assemble the bomb and plant it near the office of SIMI on Sep 29.

Tewari also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of adopting double standards while dealing with the issue of terrorism.

“The BJP propaganda machine has gone into an overdrive to label the investigations into the Malegaon terror strike as sponsored, motivated and targeted at fabricating evidence against the activists of the Sangh Parivar. But on the other hand, the BJP government in Gujarat is leaving no stone unturned to suppress the investigations into the Modasa blasts (on Sep 29),” said Tewari.

Tewari also demanded that the central government set up a Multi Disciplinary Task Force to conduct a detailed investigation to find out whether the conspiracy of outsourcing of terrorist acts “ends at the fringes of the Sangh Parivar or goes deep into the heart of it”.

Six people were killed in the Malegaon blast that occurred in the evening when Muslims were breaking the Ramadan fast for the day.
