Congress manifesto favours special status for Delhi

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress party, which has ruled Delhi for the past 10 years, has called for a “special status” for the city-state in its manifesto ahead of assembly elections.

“We want a special status for Delhi under which the police, the Delhi Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi would come under the ambit of the Delhi government,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said while releasing the manifesto Monday.

The 16-page manifesto focuses more on the development work done by the party’s government in its two terms, making a few new promises.

“We will be going to the people on the basis of the work done by the government in the past 10 years,” she told reporters.

Also present on the occasion were Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, and Delhi assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh.
