Kolkata : Two labourers were killed and three injured when an under-repair gate at the Jadavpur University collapsed here Tuesday, police said.
Two of the injured were hospitalised in a critical condition.
Several other labourers got trapped when the gate gave way, but they were later rescued by police and fire brigade personnel.
Following the incident, students of the university urged vice chancellor Pradip Narayan Ghosh to pay compensation to the families of the two victims and financial assistance for the treatment of the injured.
A police official at the spot said no specific allegation had been received following the incident. “We are now busy in the rescue operations. We will definitely inquire into the matter,” he said.
