Implicating Purohit in Samjhauta blasts will help Pakistan: BJP

By IANS,

New Delhi : The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday hit out at what it called the government’s flip-flop over an arrested army officer’s alleged links to the Samjauta Express train bombing. This has given Pakistan a handle to challenge New Delhi’s charge that Islamabad sponsors terrorism in India, it said.

“The investigators first accused Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit of stealing RDX from the army and planting it in the Delhi-Lahore Samjhauta Express to trigger the blasts, and it later turned out that RDX was not used at all,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad told reporters.

“The Congress-led government was earlier soft on terror but is now acting in a juvenile manner, as this instance explained,” he said.

The Congress does not realise the implications of such an attitude, which will provide “Pakistan the opportunity to tell the world that India was spreading false propaganda about Islamabad”, he said.

Prasad said such irresponsible attitude will blunt New Delhi’s charge that Islamabad was sponsoring terror in India. India and Pakistan are to hold home secretary level talks Nov 25 in Islamabad.
