D/L could have been avoided in Kanpur ODI: Pietersen

By IANS,

London : England skipper Kevin Pietersen feels that a flexible approach to the third One-Day International could have avoided the match to decided on the Duckworth-Lewis system (D/L).

The match had a 45-minute delayed start due to morning mist and it was called off in the fading evening light. India were ahead of England in Duckworth-Lewis charts and were awarded the match to lead the seven-match series 3-0.

“It is a very bitter pill to swallow. We tried to have a chat to see if we could get the lunch break shortened but we were told it was an ICC regulation that it had to be 30 minutes,” England skipper Kevin Pietersen was quoted as saying in The Guradian.

Pietersen warned India that the same problems could occur in the sixth ODI in Guwahati – a venue that England have tried to have switched without success.

“I knew there was no way we were going to get the game finished,” Pietersen said.

“It’s in the north-east, they don’t have floodlights, and even though we are starting at 8.30 it could be dark up there by 3pm. Somebody needs to look at it,” he said.
