Islamabad : India will take up wide range of security related issues, including terrorism and extradition of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in crucial talks with Pakistan here on Tuesday.
Terrorism, drug trafficking and circulation of fake currency notes would be high on the agenda of the Home Secretary-level dialogue between India and Pakistan in the capital.
Indian Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, who is leading the delegation, crossed over from the Attari-Wagah border on Monday for talks with his Pakistani counterpart Syed Kamal Shah.
Gupta is also expected to take up the issue of a liberalised visa regime in the backdrop of recently initiated cross-LoC trade as a confidence building measure between the two countries.
India is likely to make a forceful demand for the extradition of Ibrahim and end to smuggling of arms from Pakistan. New Delhi is also expected to hand over a list of criminals, who are believed to be hiding in Pakistan, for trial in India for their alleged involvement in different incidents, sources in the Indian Home Ministry said.
India may seek the handing over of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts accused Tiger Memon and five hijackers of IC 814 aircraft in 1999. Islamabad, however, has denied the presence of Ibrahim and other wanted criminals in its territory.
At the last such talks in July 2007, India and Pakistan had set up three sub-groups to go into contentious issues like terrorism and extradition and deportation of wanted criminals from each other’s territory.
New Delhi had conveyed to Islamabad its concerns on stepped-up cross-border terrorism and sought an assurance on the dismantling of terror infrastructure, including training camps and communication networks.
