Baramulla on boil : Amidst shutdown, clashes continued on fifth consecutive day

Baramulla : Sporadic clashes between people and para-military personnel continued in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town and its adjoining areas on fifth consecutive day, today.

As the situation in Baramulla continued to remain tense, curfew like restriction were enforced in old town and Khanpora areas of Baramulla town with heavy deployment of police and paramilitary troops who strictly restricted public movement in areas to prevent massive protests on ‘Chharum” of the a youth, who was allegedly killed in the firing by paramilitary personnel, during an anti-election rally, couple of days back.

Complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla, Sopore and adjoining areas for the fifth consecutive day toady against the killing of the two youth, arrests of locals and alleged excesses by the CRPF and police from Firday evening in the township.

Meanwhile, groups of youth clashed with CRPF troopers deployed on Cement Bridge and RTC Bridge connecting old town with civil lines.

Eyewitness said, “When clashes between stone- pelting youth and paramilitary troops were going on, three vehicles of BSF were attacked by mobs near cement bridge in old town”. They said that the attack was so intense that one of the drivers lost control over steering and the vehicle rammed into the preceding vehicles.

“Window shields of all three vehicles were smashed and six BSF personnel were injured,” eyewitness added.

Official sources said that three vehicles of 143 Battalion BSF bearing number WB 730303,WB 730673 and AP11W 7922 were damaged in stone pelting and six BSF troopers were injured.

“When stone-pelting mob attacked the vehicles, the drivers lost control and rammed vehicles over each other,” said Samsher Singh, a CRPF official.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people visited the families of the deceased youth to pay homage and express solidarity with the mourning families.
