Jordan, China sign nuclear cooperation agreements

Amman : Jordan and China have signed two nuclear agreements where Jordan procures full-scale “non-critical” nuclear system and another deal dedicated to execute nuclear cooperation venture.

The signing ceremony Monday, attended by Prime Minister Nader Dahabi and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qingli, took place at Jordan’s Prime Minister’s Office here.

President of Jordan’s Nuclear Energy Commission Khaled Touqan said Jordan’s procurement of this “non-critical” training system, designed and constructed in conjunction with the University of Jordan for Science and Technology (JUST) and the Chinese Atomic Energy Corporation, is to be built at JUST’s Department of Nuclear Engineering.

The second deal is an implementation protocol of the Jordan-China nuclear cooperation agreement initialled earlier and focuses on extricating and mining of uranium in two Jordanian areas and the establishment of a research nuclear reactor in the Kingdom.

Minister of International Cooperation Suhair Al-Ali and Chinese Vice-Minister of Trade Chen Jian also inked an agreement for economic and technical cooperation.

Al-Ali and governor of the Export-Import Bank of China Li Ruogu also signed a loan agreement.

Later, Dahabi held talks with Qinglin and stressed Jordan’s unwavering resolve to bolster relations with this Asian country in different fields.

“Jordan pays huge attention to China’s role, in its capacity as a political and economic heavyweight, to back the Middle East issues and efforts to achieve regional peace, stability and security,” Dahabi underlined.

Qinglin, on his part, commended the Kingdom’s unceasing pursuit to reach a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
