“Moscow expects an inter-governmental agreement on construction of additional units at the Kudankulam site as well as other sites in India to be signed in the near future”, the Russian Energy Minister Sergey Shmatko told reporters in New Delhi.

He said Russia and India have excellent prospects of cooperation in the nuclear area and this cooperation is very multi-faceted. Russia is to build four nuclear power reactors in India.

Earlier Sergey told on a conference on Hydrocarbon in New Delhi that Moscow and New Delhi have formed a working group at the ministerial level to further these talks on joint projects in the oil and natural gas sector. The Two countries are holding discussions on the issue for quite some time now.

Earlier this month India’s Petroleum Minister Murli Deora had met Russian Premier Vladimir Putin to seal the acquisition deal of UK-listed Imperial Energy by ONGC Videsh Ltd.

He also sought oil and gas assets in energy-rich Russia in Sakhalin-III oil fields and joint bidding for Trebs and Titov oilfields in the Timan Pechora region and conveyed keenness to purchase liquefied natural gas to meet the country’s growing energy needs.
