New Delhi : The run-off polls to elect the next President of Maldives, will take place on the 29th of this month.
According to All India Radio (AIR) report, announcing this in capital Male during Thursday midnight media briefing, the President of the Maldives Elections Commission, Mohammed Ibrahim said that the second round of election was necessitated as none of the candidates could get the required 50 percent of votes or more in the elections held on Wednesday.
The President of the Election Commission formally announced that Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who polled the highest number votes in the polls and Mohamed ‘Anni’ Nasheed of Maldivian Democratic Party who finished second would be the candidates for the run-off election.
