Son of Punjab Police officer arrested for robbing Mumbai diamond trader

Jalandhar : The son of a senior Punjab Police officer has been arrested for robbing diamonds and jewellery worth Rs.15 million from a Mumbai-based diamond trader, police said.

Officials here said that Mohit Sharma, son of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Punjab, was arrested Saturday along with his gunman for involvement in the crime. The diamonds and jewellery were recovered from his possession.

The jeweller, B. Shah, was robbed near Phillaur town, 40 km from here, Thursday night. The robbers threw chilli powder in his eyes and stabbed him while he was travelling back to Ludhiana in a taxi, the police said.

Sharma also runs a jewellery shop in Ludhiana.
