New Delhi: The Delhi police today put barricades on the road leading to Jamia Nagar. Heavy deployment of security personnel was made. This all was to prevent Syed Ahmad Bukhari, Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, from entering the area. He wanted to visit the House No. L-18.

As soon as the word went round that some officers from the CBI’s forensic department have entered the House No. L-18 in Jamia Nagar, hundreds of people gathered there. The Batla House lane which has L-18 was barricaded. Some of the locals asked the officers about their identity and the purpose of the visit. But they did not utter a word. This made people suspicious. They thought the officers had come to plant something in the flat which witnessed bloody shootout on September 19 in which two alleged suspected terrorists and Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma were killed.

Some phoned Ahmad Bukhari and told him about the incident. The Imam immediately left for Jamia Nagar. But when he reached Julena roundabout, about 2 kms from L-18, he found the road blockaded and large number of security personnel deployed.

When Shahi Imam asked the DCP Gurcharan Das standing there about the blockade, he said he has been asked not to allow him (Imam Bukhari) in the area. With folded hand the DCP made the request to the Imam not to enter the area.

Imam Bukhari alleged that the officers have come to plant something to defame Muslims. He alleged that Jamia Nagar SHO Iqbal Khan was bribed to say that the rent agreement and verification document of the slain suspects were fake.

He also alleged that the SHO is threatening some locals to implicate them in the case if they did not pay him. He demanded removal of the SHO.
