Tashkent : India’s Rohan Bopanna overcame a stiff resistance from Ukranian Ilia Marchenko to enter the second round of the $1,25,000 Tashkent Challenger played at the Olympic Tennis School here Tuesday.
Bopanna, who qualified for the main draw Monday, was pushed to the wall in the first set by Marchenko but the Indian Davis Cupper held his nerve to wriggle out and win 7-6(8-6), 6-4 in one hour 55 minutes.
Bopanna now runs into top seeded Lu Yen-hsun of Chinese Taipei who put out Dane Kristian Pless 6-3, 6-4.
