Kozhikode : The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has demanded an inquiry into the alleged recall from duty of two Muslim police drivers from the security convoy of opposition leader L.K. Advani, who was here Tuesday to attend a public meeting.
Addressing reporters here Wednesday, IUML state General Secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty alleged that the incident was not unintentional and was done to create communal division among the officials.
“The action of removing officials from security duty based on their religious beliefs is a disturbing development. It is a serious issue. This incident is a shame on Kerala,” he said.
Kunhalikutty said that the action was “an outline of an approach Sangh Parivar is trying to create in the country.”
It is reported that the officials in Advani’s security team had asked the Kerala Police to remove the two drivers from the convoy a few minutes before the opposition leader landed here.
Kerala Police officials, however, declined to comment on the issue.
