Calabasas : India’s Prakash Amritraj stormed into the quarter-finals of the $50,000 Mercedes Benz tennis Challenger tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ivan Miranda of Peru.
Miranda, who Monday upset fifth-seeded Kevin Kim of the US, was no match for Prakash Wednesday.
Prakash now faces top-seeded American Vincent Spadea who recovered from a set down to post a 6-7(5), 6-2,6-2 win over South African qualifier Izak van der Merwe.
In the doubles, Somdev Devvarman and his Australian partner Nathan Healey got the better of third seeds Todd Widom of the US and Merwe beating them 6-7(1), 6-3, 10-6. They now play Prakash Amritraj and American Alex Kuznetsov in the quarter-finals.
Harsh Mankad and Ashutosh Singh swept aside American wildcard pair Ryan Sweeting and Scott Oudsema 7-5, 6-3 to make the quarter-finals. They next meet Americans Lester Cook and Shane La Porte who shocked fourth- seeded pair of India’s Stephen Amritraj and New Zealand’s Daniel King-Turner 6-0, 6-3.
