Baghdad : Iraq’s Political Council for National Security discussed the country’s draft security deal with the United States in a meeting held Friday evening, according to the Chief of the Iraqi Presidential Office Nasir Al-Ani.
In a press conference following the meeting, Al-Ani said that the encounter was full of suggestions and productive feedback regarding a number of points in the draft proposal.
“There were a number of precise and crucial notes pointed out by the attendees, we still say that the deal is undergoing discussion and analysis by national and political Iraqi powers. There is still no position towards acceptance or rejection,” he continued.
Al-Ani indicated that there is a widespread call by Iraqi officials and leaders of political factions for the attendance of the Iraqi Minister of Defence, the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Finance and the Central Bank Governor for further talks.
He stressed that the agreement was about the future and sovereignty of Iraq and that the decision is one for the Iraqi people.
Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani had led the talks held at Al-Salam Palace in the country’s capital, Baghdad, attended by the Prime Minister, the Vice Presidents, a number of MPs and representatives from various Iraqi factions.
Talabani had previously met with the U.S. Ambassador in Baghdad Ryan Crocker and the Multi-National Forces Commander General Raymond Odierno.
According to a reliable source, the meeting aimed at discussions related to the U.S.-Iraqi security deal and its benefits to both countries.
