New Delhi : Qualifier Sayali Bhilare took out third seed Abhilasha Ahuja 6-0, 7-5 to enter the quarter-final of the DSCL women’s tennis nationals at the DLTA complex here Tuesday.
The Maharashtra girl, who is trained by former national champion Radhika Tulpule, blanked an erratic Abhilasha in the first set. The third seed from Haryana regrouped in the second set, but lost the match in little over an hour.
Himachal Pradesh’s qualifier Shweta Rana emerged as another upset winner beating eighth-seeded Treta Bhattacharya 7-5, 6-4 to be among the last eight.
Second seed Sweta Solanki extended her winning run with a 6-1, 6-1 hammering of Kesika Jayapalan whereas seventh-seeded Andhra girl Geeta Manohar overcame an initial resistance from Delhi’s Jilke Nelord to win 7-6(7), 6-1 to be in the quarter-finals.
