Three coalition soldiers, 57 militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : Three soldiers of the US-led coalition forces were killed and another wounded in a landmine explosion in western Afghanistan, the military said on Thursday. A statement released by the international military force here said the soldiers were on a routine patrol in the country’s western zone when their vehicle hit a landmine last night.

Names and nationalities of the soldiers and exact location of the incident were not disclosed.

Separately, the coalition forces said they had killed 57 militants in two separate operations in Uruzgan province in southern Afghanistan. One was conducted in Deh Rahod district of the province on Tuesday, said the statement. It added that 55 militants were killed.

In a second operation conducted in Khas Uruzgan district of the same province, three more militants were “eliminated.” Both operations were jointly conducted by the US-led coalition and the Afghan security forces. One coalition and an Afghan soldier were injured in the second operation, said the statement, which added that there were no civilian casualties.
