New Delhi : The current parliament session, which was the second part of the July session, was adjourned Friday till Dec 10, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi here.
The session, which started Oct 17, was supposed to conclude Nov 21. The one-week long session was the continuation of the two-day session of July, which was held to prove the majority of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the house.
The central government, after consulting the opposition parties and considering the forthcoming festival season and the assembly elections in some states, decided to hold the third part of the ongoing session Dec 10, Ravi said.
When asked whether it could be called as a monsoon session or the continuation of the special session convened to prove the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s majority in the house, Ravi said: “You can call it as whatever you want.”
“We took the decision after reaching a consensus with the main opposition National Democratic Alliance,” the minister said.
Asked about the Left parties’ allegation that the government was scared of facing parliament and that was why a separate winter session wasn’t convened, the minister said the UPA government has clear majority and it was proved during the July trust vote.
