Lebanese UNIFIL staff honored by UN command

Beirut : During a ceremony to commemorate the 63rd UN anniversary Friday, United Nations Interim Forces (UNIFIL) command awarded nine Lebanese staff members who have served for more than 25 years with the peacekeeping mission, local Daily Star reported Saturday.

“Your sense of duty and dedication represents an example to all of us as we strive to contribute to the establishment of sustainable peace in south Lebanon,” UNIFIL commander Maj. Gen. Claudio Graziano told the Lebanese staff.

The ceremony was held at UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura at the Lebanese southern borders, in the presence of senior Lebanese army officers as well.

Graziano thanked all UNIFIL staff who have worked towards accomplishment of their mission and paid special tribunal to those who laid down their lives for peace in Lebanon and around the world.

He also acknowledged that “key partners,” from the Lebanese army who sacrificed many of its soldiers while serving people in south Lebanon.

UNIFIL represents 28 different countries working as peacekeeping forces in south Lebanon.
