Jeddah : The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, extended his sincere sympathy to the government and people of Yemen following the devastating floods caused by torrential rains, causing a grave humanitarian crisis in the governorates of Hadramout and Mahra.
In an OIC press release issued here yesterday, Ihsanoglu pointed to the heavy death toll and the massive destruction that hit the infrastructure, such as roads, power and water distribution networks, describing the situation as a national disaster.
He urged the international community to provide aid and assistance to the victims.
The Secretary General expressed the OIC’s full solidarity with the people of Yemen in this difficult time.
He also addressed an urgent appeal to the OIC member states, donors, and philanthropists, humanitarian and financial institutions across the Muslim world to provide all possible assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the disaster.
Likewise, he entrusted the OIC Department of Humanitarian Affairs to undertake an urgent relief campaign to assist the distressed people in Yemen.
