Islamabad : A powerful earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted southwestern Pakistan early Wednesday, killing three people, Geo TV reported.
The epicentre of the quake lay in Chilton Range in Balochistan, some 200 km from the provincial capital Quetta, said Ghulam Rasul, chief of the Pakistan Meteorologic Department (PMD).
Rasul confirmed that three people were killed and more than 30 people suffered injuries in the temblor as many houses collapsed in the area near the epicentre.
Several people were trapped under the debris of collapsed houses and later shifted to nearby hospitals.
