Uttar Pradesh youth thrashed to death in Mumbai train

Mumbai : A young man from Uttar Pradesh was beaten to death after an altercation with commuters in a local train here, police said.

Dharamdev Ramnarain Rai (25), a labourer working in a factory in Khopoli near this Maharashtra capital, was travelling on the Khopoli-Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train with three friends when the incident took place Tuesday afternoon.

According to police officials, Dharamdev was severely thrashed in the clash shortly before the train approached Karjat while his friends Vijendra Ramkripa Rai (35), Satyaprakash Kaushal Rai and Shiv Kumar Verma (both 25) managed to escape with minor injuries.

Dharamdev was rushed to the Dube Hospital with the help of police but was declared brought dead.

The incident comes in the backdrop of increasing tensions in the city following a campaign against non-Maharashtrians by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
