M.K. Narayanan meets Oman’s ruler

Dubai : India and Oman discussed the political and economic situation in the Middle East during the two-day visit of India’s National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan to Muscat.

“The NSA met (Oman’s ruler) Sultan Qaboos Ibn Said Al Said and his counterpart Ali Bin Majid Al Maamari, Royal Office Minister,” India’s Ambassador to Oman Anil Wadhwa told IANS Thursday.

“Regional issues of mutual interest came up for discussion during the course of the meetings,” he said.

According to a statement issued by the official Oman News Agency (ONA), Narayanan said his visit was to develop relations between Oman and India.

In a separate meeting, Oman’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdallah also received Narayanan and discussed with him bilateral cooperation in various fields and ways of strengthening and developing ties, besides exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.

Oman is home to aorund 500,000 expatriate Indians.

The NSA delegation, which arrived Wednesday, will leave for India Friday.
