New York : India’s Leander Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy swept aside South African Rik De Voest and Ashley Fisher of Australia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to make the last eight at the US Open.
The seventh-seeded Indo-Czech pair, despite committing seven unforced errors and five double faults in the match, needed just 69 minutes to beat Voest-Fisher at Fluishing Meadows Sunday. Voest-Fisher, on their part committed three double faults and no unforced error.
Paes-Dlouhy, however, had a better breakpoint conversion, clinching three of six, and saved two of three on their serve.
It was a comprehensive win for the Indo-Czech pair as they had to go through tough three-setters in the previous two rounds.
Paes-Dlouhy, have a 15-5 record for the season. Interestingly, their last three losses were against world no.1 pair Daniel Nestor of Canada and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic, the likely quarter-finals opponents if they beat Swede Robert Lindstedt and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the third round Monday.
